This basic blacksmith class will begin with crucial safety instructions, ensuring that participants are equipped with knowledge on protective gear and awareness of their surroundings. I will introduce the fundamental tools of the trade, such as hammers, tongs, and anvils, and delve into fire management techniques to maintain the forge at optimal temperatures. Students would then progress to hands-on experience, starting with simpler projects like forging a nail, which teaches hammer control and precision. As skills develop, more complex tasks such as creating a simple hook, spoon, and screwdriver would be undertaken, each project building on the last and reinforcing the techniques learned. Embarking on a blacksmithing course is like stepping back in time to an era where crafting tools by hand was the norm. Over eight hours, spread across four sessions, students will learn the fundamentals of this ancient craft. Starting with safety and fire management, they'll progress to mastering hammer control and creating simple nails. By the third session, they'll be shaping hooks with confidence, and in the final session, they'll tackle the intricate process of forging a screwdriver, complete with metal tempering. It's a hands-on journey through the art of transforming raw metal into functional beauty.

True Serendipity Homestead,
Great people & experience. Mike & Cheryl have a great spot that they are so kind to share with us, their serendipitous story about how they came to be here in Maine is an excellent one - thank you for being a great example for how to create your own journey!
The highlight of our trip to Maine! We truly happened upon this place - we were up a creek realizing too late that all the other campsites in Acadia were closed for the season. As the name suggests, our time at True Serendipity made our entire trip - it was serendipity at its finest. Mike and Cheryl were lovely, kind hosts - and have thought of all the details. My son and I enjoyed a canoe paddle in the early light on the peaceful pond; a campfire under the stars (with wood thoughtfully left out for us); and most of all a blacksmithing workshop with Mike, who is a fabulous teacher and gave us both an unforgettable experience. I can't recommend enough that you make this a part of your trip - it was a highlight of our time in Maine.
